Kindness is found in Creativity
About Freya
Hi, I’m Freya — a photographer and visual artist based in Nova Scotia.
I’ve been taking photographs since I was eight years old, when my Nana gave me my first camera for my birthday. I remember being fascinated by how a moment could be held still — how light, expression, and feeling could live on in an image. I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.
As an interdisciplinary artist, my work is rooted in curiosity, observation, and connection. Alongside photography, I work as a painter and art educator, and these practices continue to shape how I see and engage with the world.
More than anything, I care about creating a welcoming and affirming space for everyone I work with. And it's a privilege to work with others through my creative indevors.
Method
My approach to photography is shaped by my experience as both a painter and an art teacher.
Painting has trained my eye to notice light, colour, and composition — the subtle details that give an image depth and atmosphere. Teaching art has taught me how to guide people with patience and care, helping them feel comfortable and confident in the creative process.
When I photograph people, I’m observing quietly and thoughtfully. I focus on the small moments, the natural interactions, and the emotions that unfold throughout the day. I offer gentle direction when it’s helpful, but I never want the experience to feel forced or overly posed.
My goal is to create images that feel honest, artful, and reflective of who you truly are — photographs that hold both the beauty of the day and the feeling of being there.
